The Comox Strathcona Regional District is in the process of selecting a name for the most recent acquired parkland on Cortes Island. The preferred name thus far is "Siskin Forest Park and Trails." This reflects a recognizable geographical landmark (Siskin Lane) and is in keeping with the donated purpose of the parkland. Regional District Parks staff, the Advisory Planning Commission and I, tossed around options and preferred this name. How about other people that live on the island? Feedback would be appreciated. Please respond by the end of June. Thanks.

Jenny, I like the name you chose. It is great to be able to have an idea where the park is in reference to the name. I don't find that the name Siskin Forest Park and Trails implies any particular ownership, nor any exclusivity. It is wonderful to have another beautiful community space to share.
Name for Parkland

Since the land is owned by CSRD, (the people of Cortes Island & District) and not the Siskin Lane Development Project, I believe the name should reflect the Island at large. I would suggest that the APC keep this in mind while deciding on the name of the park and trails.
My suggestion to the name is, "Cortes Island Regional Community Park".
