Cortes Island shows incredible diversity and talent in the Group Show, The Colour’s of the Muse, at the Old Schoolhouse Gallery Friday August 25th. “The best show ever,” a comment by many of the over 100 people that attended, confirmed what this viewer saw and documented.
Over 30 artists participated with paintings, drawings, photographs, sculpture, pottery, and fabric arts. When you enter the gallery you are treated to a phenomenal set of sculptures. The Canada Geese line of birds in flight sculpted from one Yew branch by Volker Steigemann sparked the imagination and awe of many. Contrast this with the whimsical gumboot piece by Izabelle Perry and the stark detailed photo by Richard Trueman and you have an idea of the range of creative talents and disciplines embraced by this show.
While many of the artists are long standing exhibitors, there were a few new talents also showing. Those participating this year are:
Kristen Schofield Sweet
Orion Lee Johnston
Organizing Members of this Show: Denise Gibbons, Kathleen Horne, Lynn Marttila, Lynne Barker, Meinsje Vlaming
The show was artfully hung by Meinsje Vlaming, Lynn Marttila and Lynne Barker. Poster by Meinsje and overall gallery management by Janet Turpin. Food and drink was provided by members and their friends. The Gallery is a volunteer, not for profit organization and we are grateful that so many members step forward for the love of Art.
Please find some time to visit the gallery this Saturday and Sunday, 2 to 6 PM, and next week, Friday Saturday and Sunday. Planned is an Artist’s statement night, Friday, September 1st, 6 to 9 PM
