On May 30th, 2017 Quadra RCMP conducted a traffic stop on a male on Cortes Island, BC for not having insurance. The male displayed symptoms of impairment and was issued a 90 day Immediate roadside prohibition (IRP) from driving. On June 8th, 2017 (10 days later) Quadra RCMP conducted a traffic stop on Quadra Island on the same male. The male once again displayed symptoms of impairment due to alcohol. This time he was transported to the Quadra RCMP detachment for a Criminal Code impaired investigation. The male provided breath samples almost three times the legal limit. Charges of Impaired driving, Over 80 mgs, and driving while prohibited are being forwarded to Crown Counsel.
On June 5th, 2017 Quadra RCMP were alerted to a missing female who was on vacation on Cortes Island. The female had went for a hike in an unfamiliar area at 5PM and did not return to her cabin before dark. A marine and ground search was initiated with the RCMP and Campbell River Search and Rescue the following morning. The female was located at around 1030AM. She was tired but unharmed. The RCMP would like to thank the businesses, BC Ferry crew, and local citizens who assisted in the search efforts on Cortes.
In the past 30 days Quadra RCMP issued a total of eight - 90 Day Immediate Roadside Prohibitions (IRPs) (3 on Cortes Island and 5 on Quadra), three - 3 day Immediate Roadside Prohibitions (IRPs) (all on Quadra Island) , and investigated one Criminal Code Impaired driving investigation (Quadra Island).
On June 2nd, 2017 Quadra RCMP conducted a traffic stop on a car on Quadra Island because it had stolen licence plates on it. The male driver alleged that he was unaware that the licence plates were stolen. Further investigation into the stolen plates revealed that someone had not only stolen these licence plates and validation decal but they also stole a newer validation decal from another licence plate and taped it over the existing stolen validation decal that was on the licence plate. The male was charged for several Motor Vehicle Act infractions and the investigation is still on going.
On June 6th, 2017 Quadra RCMP conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in Quathiaski Cove, BC as the vehicle had no insurance. The male driver could not produce a drivers licence or any identification and made a poor decision to give police a false name. The officer soon learned the real identity of the male who was prohibited from driving . The male then found himself under arrest for obstruction and driving while prohibited. Charges are being forwarded to Crown Counsel in this matter.
On June 9th, 2017 Quadra RCMP received a complaint of a fraud on Quadra Island. The complainant discovered purchases/ cash advances made using her credit card that were not authorized. The investigation continues but the RCMP would like to remind the public to reconcile purchases made on their credit cards with their receipts and immediately advise their banking institutions of any fraudulent purchases not authorized by the card holder.
