Thanks to all Young Writers who have already submitted their work! Did you miss the deadline? Do you have work you would like to submit? The submission deadline has been extended to January 15th! Please consider submitting your work using the guidelines below.

Cortes Island’s Young Writers’ Zine & Prize challenge young writers (ages 10-16) on Cortes Island to explore their own purpose for writing.

Young Writers’ zine
zine’s are small, self-published, and easily reproducible magazine like booklets. They can include poems, drawings, thoughts, quotes, jokes, comics, sketches and collage. The working theme for this zine is “Our Cortes”. Contributors get a free copy. We will be publishing the zine in black and white in a quarter sheet booklet format (4.25”x5.5”). Try to keep your work concise.

Young Writers’ Prize (YWP)
Entrants are invited to write an original fiction or nonfiction short story to a maximum length of 1250 words. The stories will be judged on their use of setting, characters, conflict, and resolution, as well as spelling and overall presentation. Illustrations and computer formatting are encouraged, although neither are a necessity. First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded in each category (10-12 & 13-16yrs)
