In the evening of November 2nd, 2016 Quadra RCMP received a report of missing hikers in the Squirrel Cove/Von Don Op area. The hikers were able to contact RCMP by cell phone but were unable to give their exact location except that they were on a beach by the ocean. Due to the few cell towers in the area the cell phone was not able to triangulate their exact location to police. Quadra RCMP with the valuable assistance of Coast Guard made patrols of the Squirrel Cove and Von Don Op Inlet without success. The hikers managed to locate an outhouse to stay inside to keep warm from the storm. The hikers were located by their friends a couple hours later.
