A couple of people have approached me, and a few other people associated with the Gorge Hall, regarding the discrepancy of ticket prices between the Gorge Hall and the HBI for Summer and the Sinners this weekend. Basically, it's like this:
the WCC, a non-profit volunteer board, is responsible for the price of the band, the price of housing them, and the Cortes portion of the ferry. All of this has to be paid on ticket sales alone.
The HBI has rooms for the band, only has to pay the Quadra part of the ferry (if they even cover that) and makes a killing on drink sales to cover the price of the band should there be a low turnout.
We just can't compete with that.
Our compromise is advance tickets, 100 of which are available until noon the day of at the Gorge Store and the Co-op, for only $15 which, when you think about it, is still cheaper than a ticket at the HBI and a walk on ticket for the ferry ride home... plus you get to sleep in your own bed for the night!!!
I really hope you all will come out and support this great band at your local community venue so that we can continue to bring great music in. If you want to continue this dialogue, please feel free to email me at cortezdancesgmail.com.
