The free store works extremely well serving the community and has become a source of pride for the island. We are happy you bring stuff and happy you take stuff. However, the large volume of donations is becoming overwhelming. Speaking for myself only, the community could help us help you in the following ways:
Please try to bring smaller loads.
Maybe make 2 trips on different days? When people bring truckfulls at a time puts a great deal of stress on the volunteer staff who work very hard to keep up with it.
We can no longer accept winter clothing until Fall.
There is just no storage room. This is standard for most thrift stores.
Volunteers are needed.
Most urgently for Friday. Can you commit to a 4 hour shift one day a week? If so, please call Lorna 935-6988, or Lella. Thanks folks.
Thanks so much!

You guys do such a great job, thanks for letting us know how we can help...
I think it's brilliant to suggest that a way that folks can make more things available in that space is to store seasonal items until closer to the season they're needed.
Also, bringing smaller loads at a time seems reasonable. Would another idea be: If you bring a large load - stick around to help sort it and fold it and shelve it etc (under direction by qualified voluteers)?
Are there still plans to expand?
