Dear Ms. Bonanno
Thank you for posting a response to this privacy issue here on Tidelines.
Before writing the original Tidelines submission, we had read both the VIRL privacy policy, and the EBSCO privacy policy linked to on the new VIRL website. I did note quite a disparity in their content. Whereas VIRL policy was most protective of library clients privacy, EBSCO expressly stated that personal information could be shared with 3rd parties. In telephone conversations with two different VIRL representatives, the first assured us that under this new arrangement, in his understanding, account inform would indeed be shared with EBSCO. The second representative returned our call a day later after discussing the matter with his superior(s) and doubted this was so, but was still a bit unsure. In the meantime, we received an email outlining the VIRL privacy policy, and assuring us that account information would not be shared with EBSCO. Apparently there was some confusion both in my understanding and that of VIRL representatives. You can understand my concern.
Thank you for taking the time to clarify this to me and all of us who use the library services.
Re: the new website, I have noted already some changes, upgrades, and additions. The launch of new programs often does not go as smoothly as we would like, And I am sure you and all the library staff are doing their best to provide an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
With kind regards,
Jack Wills
