Sandcastle Day at Smelt Bay 2015

Twenty-seven teams registered this year challenging the judges with intricate and imaginative creations. When volunteers arrived to set up at 9 they were greeted with a chilly wind and a 13 foot tide. By 10 half the teams had arrived eager to register and get out on the sand. As the day warmed up and the tide receded the projects took shape. The best part of judging was listening to the descriptions of the projects by their creators. (The summoning of serpents, the Gaudi-inspired castles, the historic icons, and the realistic sea life). The most difficult part of judging was choosing one sculpture over another. As judges we all felt privileged to participate. Here are the results:

Family Category:

2nd Place: “The Demon of Desolation Sound” (Giant squid and Sperm Whale) by the Demon of Desolation Sound Spade Team.

Overall best sculpture:
For the first time we had a tie for overall best sculpture:
