Stewardship Program Coordinator

Part-time position starting June 1st, 2015
Wage: $18/hr ~ 12 hours/week

Contract Duration:
June 1, 2015 – June 1, 2016 with the possibility of renewal

Friends of Cortes Island Society (FOCI) is a charitable organization that has operated on Cortes for over 25 years. We deliver ecological stewardship and educational programs that promote environmental resilience through community responsibility.

FOCI is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated person to coordinate and manage our ongoing stewardship programs. The coordinator will work closely with the Executive Director to oversee several of FOCI’s initiatives including our Lake, Trail, Stream, and Marine Stewardships programs as well as our Regional District Parks management contract.

Responsibilities will include project management, public outreach, volunteer coordination, fundraising, and general administrative tasks.

Some of the key tasks will be:
* event and workshop coordination
* public outreach and production of promotional materials
* managing program registration
* grant research, writing & reporting (with support from the ED)
* tracking in-kind hours for volunteers/donations
* corresponding with project managers and contractors
* maintaining project files/records for each program
* managing the sales of FOCI ‘goods’ (ie. greeting cards, maps, and colouring books)
* paying invoices and issuing tax receipts
* co-ordinating bi-weekly sampling with Lake Stewardship volunteers
* co-ordinating volunteers for specific events/projects
* responding to program related inquiries and emails
* updating membership and volunteer lists (data entry)
* assisting with AGM preparations/membership drive (Sept-Nov)

We understand that this is a part-time position and you will not be expected to volunteer outside of your paid hours. In working with the ED, both of you will ensure that your assigned tasks are achievable within the scope of your two-day work week.

Eligible applicants must satisfy all of the following criteria:
• computer competence necessary (email, MS Word, Excel, file management);
• strong administrative and organizational skills;
• experience with the design and production of outreach materials (ie. posters, newsletters, Tideline articles, etc.);
• able to manage a project budget and keep financial records;
• able to multi-task, manage time effectively, and co-ordinate several concurrent projects;
• able to independently track hours worked and keep records of completed tasks;
• strong verbal and written communication skills;
• available to work at the FOCI office two days per week;
• legally entitled to work in Canada

Preferred Skills:
• a background in biology, environmental studies, or a related field;
• successful grant writing experience;
• experience with volunteer coordination;
• competency with MailChimp, Wordpress, and/or website design a major asset;
• able to work occasional evenings and weekends;

Depending on available funding, there may be an opportunity for this position to expand in the future. The ideal candidate would be open to additional weekly hours if that becomes a possibility.
