I didn't attend to the Rezoning hearing this past Saturday, January 13, 2007, mainly because I am tired of the confusion, misleading information that cause mistaken arguments, wrong assumptions on this process and more.
However, I did submit my input to the RDCS, with a simple petition:
" I want to ask setting a total moratorium to any rezoning, until we do the long-due review to our OCP !
" We do need to have a new understanding of the lands we have (forestry, ALR, residential, etc.); the ways we can keep growing, depending on our LIMITS OF GROWTH ; we need to set some intelligent plans for the future of our community, based on Energy Descent Plan or Smart Growth concepts. "
By reading Carrie's notes on the hearing it is obvious I was right. There was so much confusion about rezoning, density, forestry activities, the process itself. I am not sure if there was any positive outcome from the hearing.
By the way, I am of the idea that higher-density is not necessarily bad, depending on factors such as how much more density, location, facilities around and more. Don't forget that we did support higher-density at the Siskin Lane development.
Besides, higher-density may help with having less cars and less driving, is one key element to provide affordable housing and more.
Let me insist I believe the only solution to this mess is to demand the RDCS for ** a total moratorium to all rezoning in the island until we have a new OCP ! !!
thank you,
