Cortes Island's Folk University
An experiment in slow learning, and the only university where no one ever graduates.
At it’s heart is the hope that at a time when our ideas and differences are being used to divide us from each other, perhaps we can engage in the act of learning, inspiring, and sharing in a way that brings us closer together. Can we become more independent and interdependent? Can we slow down learning? Can we have fun while doing it?
Folk U partners with neighbours and local nonprofits to offer regular workshops, classes, forums, micro-grants to neighbours, Think Tanks, creators circles, and a local radio show. Don't miss these Folk U Friday Talks, every Friday during the academic year, now on the radio at CKTZ 89.5 FM cortesradio.ca.
Previous Folk University talks & offerings have included: local economics 101, how to tell a better joke, hands-on chicken slaughter 101, primer on the brain, chocolate making, what’s the gut microbiome, diy probiotics, Grant Writing workshop, folk medicine circle (partner), Making it Work forum (partner), TGIF movie nights (partner), and so much more.
