You may have noticed a new Fire Department vehicle on the island recently. It is a 1997 Chevrolet Suburban that was purchased from the Newport, Oregon Fire Department. Although it has high miles, it is in good shape and passed the required vehicle inspection without a problem. It is called Command 1 and is in service now. You will see the vehicle out and about on the island being driven by the Duty Officer who is on call 24 hours a day. The Duty Officer will respond directly to an incident in order to determine what needs to be done. As time goes on, Command 1 will be equipped with more equipment.
