Cortes Island Museum and Archives Society AGM will be held on Sunday, March 30th at Manson's Hall. Membership renewal will start at 1 PM and a short 1:30 PM business meeting will be followed with a special presentation.

Guest Speaker Mike Yip will present Rare and Interesting Birds on Vancouver Island. Over 400 species of birds have been recorded on Vancouver Island, but many are seldom seen because of a variety of reasons. Some, like the American Bittern and Green Heron, are only seen in specific habitats like marshes and swamps; migrating birds, like Marbled Godwit and Whimbrel, are only seen briefly during their migration stopovers; and vagrants, like the Citrine Wagtail and Northern Hawk Owl, are totally unpredictable.

Mike Yip was born on Vancouver Island and has lived there for most of his life. He retired from teaching in 2001 and discovered birds in 2003. He got into digital photography in 2004 and since then he has self-published three books on Vancouver Island Birds and a fourth book on Denman and Hornby Nature. He is currently working on a book about Vancouver Island Butterflies.

Refreshments to follow. Everyone welcome.
