Greetings Cortes Community,

We are very excited to host the Vancouver Island Regional Library on Linnaea Farm!
As some of you know, the library hosted a ‘soft opening’ of it’s new location this past Friday. VIRL's policy is to have a soft opening to give themselves and the farm a chance to work out the kinks before the library’s grand opening. There are a few details that we would like to share with you to facilitate a smooth transition. First off, the library will continue to maintain its regular hours at its new location i.e. Mon/Wed/Friday from 1-5pm.

Now, let’s walk you through how to get to the library once you reach the Linnaea Farm parking lot, which is located at 1255 Seaford Rd – just past the Gorge Harbour Road ‘T’. Please park your car in the parking lot and walk up the driveway beside the garden to get to the library. If you have a handicapped card for your car, there are 2 designated parking spaces closer to the building. Due to a very small road, and our need for keeping it open for emergency vehicle access, these spaces are only for people who have the card. The spaces are clearly marked as you drive up.

Currently there is a handicapped accessibility ramp being constructed, which will lead to a separate entrance to the library. However, awaiting completion, the temporary entrance will be through the main front doors of the Linnaea Farm Education Center. Look for the library signposted in the window. Once you enter the front doors, go down the stairs. At the bottom of the stairs, turn to your right. One more left and you have found the library!

Until the ramp is completed, there is no wheelchair accessibility to the library. To access the library, you will need to walk down a flight of stairs. VIRL hopes to have the ramp completed before Christmas. For after hours book returns, there is a drop box located at the front of the Linnaea Farm Education Center.

There will be lighting from the parking lot to the library, but there are no streetlights in the Linnaea Farm parking lot, so keep a headlamp or flashlight with you in these dark months!

Linnaea Farm is a 316-acre working farm home to 9 adults and 5 children, many cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, farm machinery and gardens. Please pay attention to all signs on the farm. Please, whenever possible, leave all pets at home. All visiting dogs to the farm must be on a leash at all times, as we have free ranging chickens and our sheep pastures are nestled around the Education Center. The Education Center is located on the edge of Gunflint Lake, so please do not leave your children unattended while visiting the farm.
Again, we are thrilled to have the library on Linnaea Farm, and extend a warm welcome to the Cortes Community.
