I wanted to give Cortes Island library users something to consider when thinking about a new library on the island. I've been spending time on Gabriola where a new library was opened last fall. The new library features two computers adjacent to the children's book shelves for use by children, and there are quite a few different programs on them for children of various ages to explore. This arrangement is typical for almost all the new libraries I've seen within the V.I. Regional Library area. Many of the parents on Gabriola have said that the new computers should be separate from the children's book area, because the children often ignore the books and spend their time on the computer. Some of the parents feel it would be useful to have a separate computer lab for the computers, away from the books. Food for thought!
Computers and book: agreeing with Kate!

Just wanted to chime in - I wholeheartedly agree re the computers being separate from the kids book area. I would be so happy to see them in a separate area! Thanks for brining that to mind in the first place Kate,
