The Artist’s Journey Art Auction is scheduled for Friday, November 23, 2012 at Saltspring Island’s celebrated Artspring Center. This is a fantastic opportunity for Cortes artists to have their work showcased on Saltspring Island – a vibrant community of dedicated artists and collectors of art!

During the summer of 2012, visiting artists joined local artists in the Children’s Forest on Cortes Island and were inspired to create beautiful, original works of art. Pictured above is Kuno Egger’s contribution, inspired by Indian-Pipe, Monotropa uniflora, growing alongside the Grandmother Grove trail. Kuno is a Saltspring ceramic and glass artist.

Auction proceeds from the donated artwork will be used to publish the book – Forest Alphabet: Artistic Visions of a Forest in Trust to the Children. “Forest Alphabet features the original artwork and voices of 33 bright-eyed and beautiful children from Cortes Island speaking out for the protection, in perpetuity, of the Children’s Forest – a place they call home in the rainforests of British Columbia.” The sales of Forest Alphabet will be used for promotion and fundraising towards purchase of the Children’s Forest.

Artists of all disciplines are invited to contribute generously to the art auction. A sealed bid silent auction format will be adopted to accommodate bids from individuals far & wide who are unable to attend in person. Photographs of the artwork will be posted online for public viewing 2 weeks prior to the auction date.

Please direct all donations of artwork & questions to Sabina Leader Mense 250 935 6467 or Christine Robinson 250 935 6428. November 5 is the deadline for donations to allow time for the artwork to be photographed and posted online by November 9. November 16 will be the last opportunity for donations from Cortes Island to be transported to Saltspring Island for the art auction.

Check out a few of the beautiful donations made to date, by Cortes artists, presently on display at the Cortes Credit Union.

The Artist’s Journey Art Auction is an initiative of the Forest Trust for the Children of Cortes Island Society. Imagine… a forest in trust to the children.
