Cortes Island artist, Lisa Gibbons, created artwork for 25 years, using an array of mixed media techniques, including painting, drawing, collage, encaustic, photo transfer and assemblage. She created works that are multi-layered, evocative, mysterious and reflected her connection with the outer world as well as her inner landscape.

"As an artist and as a human of this world, especially while facing the difficulties of life, I find rest and peace in the places that art takes me, where creativity can emerge freely, and which cultivates a sense of home. For me, art is an act of discovery, finding the images that represent movement among the worlds, the visible and obscured, the ancient and the present, human and more-than-human worlds. The lush coastal landscape of the Salish Sea, where I grew up and raised my own children, provides the inspiration for my artistic explorations, in which I experience primal relationships among the human world and the wild world of invisible, ancient,
and eternal realms. The animals in my paintings are messengers from these worlds. They bring us new perspectives, through which we can view the world and learn what it means to be a living being. The vessels that appear in my work carry messages among the worlds. My landscapes are intuitive and
symbolic, reflecting the Seen and Unseen Worlds.
My self-portraits are each an attempt to find the hidden qualities of myself within the person that is seen and known.”
