Notices, Workshops & Rides: Frozen Water pipes - what worked for me.
With these cold spells were getting, my water pipes froze. This left us with no water and the imminent possibility of bursting pipes.
Here's what I did.
Our house has two sets water pipes. One set inside the house and one set outside the house.
For the inside pipes I poured hot water (from my kettle down the spout with the tap open. After a couple of hours, the ice in the line melted and the taps started running! Yay!
The next day the pipes froze again. This time it was the pipes in the outside pump room. To fix this I put a heater in my pump room. After about 2 hours, my water started running again. Double yah. Now, I leave a heater (on low setting) in my pump room. I've heard Some people leave a light bulb on in the pump room...but sometimes I don't think thats enough when it gets -6 and colder and it still might freeze.
