Notices, Workshops & Rides: Massive illegal shellfish harvesting?!
Sunday, Sep-6th of the long weekend there were 12 men digging up and dragging huge nets full of clams to waiting trucks. Their response to my question was 'we have a permit'. Later that day, this same group were carrying large pails full of oysters from Smelt Bay. They overnighted in the overflow at the provincial park and were gone early the next day.

Unfortunately, on Salt Spring, we've had groups like this come and do the same thing and our bays and beaches still haven't recovered.

I wasn't sure what to do at the time, but have since learned that if you witness this kind of activity on your beaches and lagoons here on Cortes, immediately contact:

Fisheries @ 1-800-465-4336
RCMP @ 250-285-3631

And provide any photo/video evidence (e.g. license plate numbers).
