tiny predator by Christian Gronau
Trichocerca cf. longiseta is a beautiful rotifer found in Hague and Gunflint Lakes. Unlike other planktonic organisms, which may cause water quality problems, this little metazoan member of the zooplankton community feeds on bacteria and algae, contributing to the clarity of the water.
The tiny animal carries a single egg, and she is almost half a millimeter long, including the spine.
