Fall 2026 Newsletter
Looking ahead to fall as summer winds down, we’re looking forward to a busy and exciting fall at the Women’s Centre! The shorter, darker months can be challenging for many people in our community. This fall, we’re pleased to be offering a variety of opportunities to connect, learn, share, and support one another through our Emotional Wellness Initiative.
We’re also excited to reach an important milestone for our organization, our first Annual General Meeting! We are thrilled to be holding our first AGM September 20th! This is an exciting step forward for the Cortes Island Women’s Resource Society as we continue to grow and build a strong, community-based organization. Details will be announced soon. We encourage our members and community supporters to join us as we reflect on our first year, look toward the future, and celebrate everything we have accomplished together.
Men’s Wellness Luncheon Series
This fall and winter, we’re introducing the Men’s Wellness Luncheon Series! These free community lunches are an opportunity for local men to connect with one another, enjoy a meal, and learn about resources that support physical health, mental wellness and more with some key players and outstanding men in our community! We believe that healthier, more connected men help create healthier and safer communities for everyone. We’re looking for local caterers! We are currently looking to hire caterers who would be interested in providing meals for the luncheons. If you are a local caterer, cook, or food provider and would like to learn more about the opportunity, please reach out to the Women’s Centre.
Calling Local Women Artists!
We’re creating a fundraising calendar featuring the artwork of local women artists, and we’re looking for a few more submissions! This project is a celebration of the creativity and talent of women in our community while helping raise funds to support the work of the Women’s Resource Society. If you are a local woman artist and would like to have your work considered for the calendar, we’d love to hear from you! Please contact us for submission details.
Emotional Wellness Initiative
The fall and winter months can bring increased isolation, fewer opportunities to connect, and challenges with mental and emotional wellness. Our Emotional Wellness Initiative is designed to create welcoming, accessible opportunities for people in our community to connect, learn, and support one another through the darker months.
This fall, we’re excited to offer several new groups and workshops:
Menopause Peer Support Group
A welcoming space to share experiences, information, challenges, and encouragement with others navigating menopause and perimenopause.
Caring for Caretakers Peer Support Group Supporting the people who spend so much of their time supporting others. This peer group will provide an opportunity for caregivers to connect, share experiences, and find support in a safe and understanding environment.
Three-Part Mindfulness Workshop with Marthe Laberge
A three-part workshop exploring mindfulness practices and simple tools that can help us manage stress, become more present, and support our overall emotional wellness.
Women Who Run with the Wolves Book Study with Laurel Bohart
Join us for a weekly exploration of Clarissa Pinkola Estés’ Women Who Run with the Wolves.Come together for thoughtful discussion, reflection, and connection as we explore the stories and themes in this well-known work. Please reach out if you are interested in participating. We want to make sure we have enough books for everyone.
Plus we have a few more things up our sleeve... More information about dates and registration will be coming soon!
Have a Workshop to Offer?
We still have some funding available to support additional workshops and community learning opportunities through our Emotional Wellness Initiative. Do you have a skill, passion, area of knowledge, or workshop idea that could benefit our community? We’d love to hear from you! If you’re interested in offering a workshop, please reach out to us and let us know what you have in mind.
The Women’s Centre Is Opening Back Up!
