Taketina has been developed over the last 55 years as a means to make the benefits of embodying polyrhythms available to anyone!
The founder of Taketina, Reinhard Fletischler, found great nervous-system healing as a percussionist when learning ancient musical systems, and recognized the commonality of polyrhythms among many of them. He was inspired to make accessible to anyone (not just musicians) the benefits of polyrhythms and created Taketina.
Through gradually building a stepping pattern, upon that a clapping pattern, with spoken and sung voice woven throughout, accompanied by Brazilian surdo drum and berimbau, participants are offered a dynamic experience that engages the body in such a way that helps to regulate the nervous system and relax the thinking mind.
Last fall, I completed a 3-year teacher training in leading Taketina rhythm journeys, and I am hosting free weekly study groups to practice facilitating and to build my journey repertoire for weekend workshops. I would appreciate you coming! They typically last 75mins to 90mins.
All are welcome, regardless of level of musical experience. Feel free to invite others.
The first study group is tomorrow, Sunday at 3:30pm! A little earlier than usual, because special guest advanced Taketina teacher Shasta Martinuk will be visiting from Courtenay and needs to be on the last ferry.
Shasta and I will also be co-leading a Taketina weekend workshop August 27th-29th!
Location: 1066 Seascape Rd (Treedom). Please observe speed limits on the Treedom common road and stay in the tracks (drive through the small potholes).
Please arrive on time (or close to) as we go through a progressive process that builds up in complexity.
