What exactly does a heat pump do?
A heat pump transfers heat rather than generating it. During winter, it extracts heat from the outdoor air and moves it indoors. In summer, it reverses the process to cool your home, providing year-round comfort from a single system.

Collaboration spotlight:
The Cortes Climate Action Committee is enthusiastically championing the Support Our Seniors’ efforts to help Cortes residents get heat pumps! Electrification is one of the most effective ways we, as individuals, can reduce our climate-damaging emission, and heat pumps offer the most efficient electrical option for home heating and cooling. Whether you’re replacing propane or wood (yes, burning wood releases CO2!), or other electrical heat sources, you’ll lower your emissions—and costs—with a heat pump. To boot, when people install heat pumps, they’ll be able to stay cool as our summers get hotter without draining the grid. Unfortunately, cooling our indoor air is becoming not just a nice option but a critical intervention, especially for seniors.

Thanks to Support Our Seniors Society for this effort and for working with us to ensure that the heat pumps that come to Cortes through this program will be using the safest refrigerants currently available.
