Friends of Cortes Island would like to offer huge thanks to everyone who took part in the third annual whole island Big Beach Clean up.

Enormous thanks to everyone who collected garbage off the beaches and deposited it in all the super sacks, around the island. All the garbage was sorted, deposited in an Ocean Legacy bin and will be taken off island to be recycled.

This year, as well as community efforts, the Klahoose Beach Cleanup crew did a fantastic job over the last few months cleaning many of the island’s beaches by boat.

A total of 2570kg of garbage has been removed (two and a half Ocean Legacy bin’s worth). All this effort means that many of the island’s beaches are now in great shape.

The team that made it happen consisted of:

Klahoose Aquaculture, Kenny and Paul who hosted the Ocean Legacy Bin, and Kenny who coordinated by beach clean ups by boat

Comox Strathcona Waste Management, and Stephanie Vidal who provided invaluable support -supplying the Bin and the super sacks and getting everything sent off to be recycled

FOCI crew Sam, Alex and Autumn who distributed and picked up the super sacks, helped clean beaches and assisted with all the sorting.

All in all a fantastic community effort, and so awesome to the garbage off the beaches, out of the ocean and off to be recycled!
