Food banks are often misunderstood — and those misconceptions can contribute to stigma that keeps people who need support from reaching out. Food Banks Canada recently published a great piece addressing five common myths about food banking, and it's worth a read.

A couple of things that might surprise you: food bank misuse is rare — research shows food banks are more likely to be underused than overused, with many people avoiding them due to stigma or the feeling that others need it more. And it's not just unemployed people who need support — employed people now make up nearly 19% of food bank clients nationally, as rising costs of living have outpaced wages across Canada.

Here on Cortes, the food bank exists for anyone in our community who needs it — no questions asked. If you or someone you know is struggling, we're here.
