There’s a proposed expansion of the quarry on Cortes that’s worth paying attention to.
It’s a large-scale increase in extraction at a site near the headwaters of James and Hume Creeks with potential impacts to local watersheds, plus a big jump in heavy truck traffic on our roads and ferries.
There are also open questions about whether this level of expansion reflects a real local need.
If you have thoughts on this (whatever your perspective), now is the time to weigh in:
Public Meeting: May 7
Comment deadlines: May 8 (Ministry of Mining) & May 14 (Ministry of Forests)
