(Campbell River, BC) – The Coastal Fire Centre will be prohibiting all open burning throughout the Coastal Fire Centre and each local fire service area is following suit with their own total open burning ban as well.
As of noon on Thursday May 7th campfires, backyard fires and beach fires are not permitted in any area of the Strathcona Regional District.
This means that no open burning is permitted at all.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, 24 locations across the province reached or tied record high temperatures for May 3, including 10 on Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast.
Campbell River reached a high of 28.9 C, breaking the previous record of 22.8 C set in 2013.
The Comox area reached 27.1 C, surpassing the previous record of 25 C recorded in 1946.
Nanaimo recorded a high of 28.1 C, exceeding the previous mark by two and a half degrees. That record was also set in 1946.
Qualicum Beach reached 26.5 C on Sunday, surpassing the previous record of 21.4 C set in 2023.
On the Sunshine Coast, Sechelt reached 26.3 C, beating the previous high of 21.8 C set in 2016.
Powell River reached 25.2 C, breaking the previous record of 22.2 C set in 1946.
