Proposed Quarry Expansion
An information meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, May 7, 7:00 pm at Manson’s Community Hall.
The purpose of the meeting is to facilitate informed and respectful discussion of the proposed expansion of the Whaletown gravel quarry as presented in the Aggregate and Quarry Management Plan/Cortes Island Quarry Management Plan, June 2025. There will be several short presentations followed by an opportunity for people to offer brief comments or to ask questions. This meeting will be facilitated by Mike Moore and there will be a speakers list. People will be asked to keep their questions or comments to 1 minute and encouraged to carefully consider ahead what they wish to share. The Nielsens will be invited to make a short presentation. Further details will be posted closer to the meeting date,
Please note - The date deadline for public comments is Friday, May 8, at midnight BC time to the Ministry of Mining. For clarity, the 2nd date deadline for public comment is Thursday, May 14 which is to the Ministry of Forests because the quarry site is located on crown lands and falls under the jurisdiction of forestry.
