Helen - FOCI
Newts have started crossing the roads on their spring migration. Please keep watch for them!

At this time of year, they’re heading from the forests to their breeding grounds in wetlands — and they especially like crossing when it is wet.

Yellow and black 'Newt X-ing' signs are mounted in 'hotspots' of larger newt migrations, close to wetlands. However, newts can be spotted all around the island, and newt crossings can be up to 1km long.

Please drive carefully and do your best to avoid running over them — they look like small upturned leaves or twigs on the road.

We’re celebrating the migration with this wonderful new I brake for newts! sticker (pictured), available from the FOCI office (open 5 days a week), the Museum, and the Co-op. Thanks to Melanie Boyle for her beautiful design.
