The University of British Columbia honours Laurel Bohart, the Museum’s Curator at Wild Cortes Natural History Centre, an accomplished taxidermist and scientist. Laurel has served on the Cortes Island Museum’s board since 2007. In 2025, the University of British Columbia nominated Laurel for the Women in Science recognition, which honours a scientist, educator, and craftsperson whose career reflects a lifelong commitment to the natural sciences.

Wild Cortes, located at Linnea Education Centre, 1255 Seaford Road, is the Cortes Island Museum & Archives’ permanent off-site Natural History Education Centre.
