Cortes Housing Society
Over the past few years, the Cortes Housing Society (CHS) has been working with the community on local housing challenges — from building homes at Rainbow Ridge to hosting forums, surveys, and conversations that bring many voices together.
One thing we’ve heard clearly: housing on Cortes isn’t just about building new places. It’s also about how existing homes are cared for, rented, and used year-round.
CHS has recently completed a feasibility study and is now exploring the next step — developing a business plan to see whether CHS could offer community-based property management and housing support services. This could include things like long-term rental management, seasonal rental support, home-watch services, or acting as a trusted go-between for homeowners and renters.
These ideas come directly from past community conversations and are still in the planning stage. No decisions have been made and no services are launching yet. The goal is simply to understand what might be possible, what it would take to do it well, and whether it fits with CHS’s mission and capacity.
We’d love to hear from you.
We’re inviting conversations with Cortes residents — full-time and part-time — to learn more about needs, interests, and concerns. You might want to connect if you:
-own a home on Cortes but live off-island part of the year
-run a short-term rental and are curious about other options or support
-have a cabin, suite, or secondary unit you’ve thought about renting
-are unsure what housing options might make sense for your property
-or just want to share your perspective
These chats are informal, confidential, and come with no obligations. We’re listening and learning.
