This year’s CBC (Christmas Bird Count) is scheduled for Sunday, December 28, 2025.
Please mark your calendars and stay tuned for further announcements. If weather conditions are unfavourable, this date may change.
While registration isn't required, it is appreciated. Please email cimascortesmuseum.com or call 250-935-6340.
Our plan is to start at 9 a.m. with three groups: one at the Museum, one in Squirrel Cove, and another in Whaletown. We have experienced birders ready to guide you and share their knowledge of birds. If you plan to join a group, please call the museum at 250-935-6340 or email cimascortesmuseum.com for more information about meeting points. We are also collecting observations from bird feeders around the island.
Bird feeder watchers should email their observations to cimascortesmuseum.com. When emailing your list, please use the provided forms or list the birds with the bird’s name first, followed by the number.
Around 3 p.m., we will compile our observations with George Sirk, who will ensure that “all is good and that rare sightings are documented."
Printed bird survey forms are available at the museum, or you can download them from this post or from our website.
We are recording all observed birds – we need their numbers and species names. Rare species must be documented with location details and either a photo (preferably) or a description. A bird is considered "rare” if it is not on our list.
The results of our CBC will be sent to Birds Canada and the Audubon Society. These organizations collect data from all CBCs and verify our results.

We hope many of you will participate in this annual event!
