Saturday, November 15 from 2 – 4 pm at Linnaea’s Lakeview Room.
The first hour is open house format to give everyone the opportunity to peruse the hard copy maps, up close and personal; presentations start at 3 pm.

Everyone is invited to the Community Launch of the Cortes Community Ecosystem Mapping (CCEM) Project’s Cortes Island Map Series.
In the works since 2022, CCEM’s goal has been to place up-to-date base maps into community hands. They’ve arrived; drop in and check them out!

These maps will provide a base for ecosystem informed land use planning on Cortes Island; a powerful mechanism for informing our social, economic and environmental future.
The project was funded by the Cortes Community Forest Cooperative and Cortes Housing Society.

The maps were created by Eve Flager, Read Islander and professional GIS Analyst (former Campbell River GIS Technologist), to depict the current state of Cortes Island in terms of ecology, human infrastructure and development. Eve will be in attendance to describe the mapping methodologies and answer community questions.

“…whoever has the maps in their hands controls the fate of the land.”
