Join us at this Friday’s Market (and the last Friday of each month) for tea, cookies, and heartfelt conversation. The DeathCare Collective offers a warm, welcoming space to chat, ask questions, and share thoughts about life and death.
Since 2019, this compassionate group of friends and neighbours has been helping our community reclaim the tradition of caring for our own at death. Simply, naturally, and with compassion. They believe death is not a medical event, but a deeply human experience. One that can be tended to with presence, love, and care.
The DeathCare Collective works to bring death back into the circle of life, offering education, guidance, and steady support for those facing end-of-life or sudden loss. Their mission is to empower families and individuals to participate meaningfully in this sacred transition. From preparing for end-of-life to creating home-based or community-based after-death care.
They remind us that, just as we show up for one another in birth, illness, and celebration, we can also show up for each other through dying and grief. Cortes Island’s resourceful, heart-centered spirit shines brightly through this work.
The Collective’s efforts are sustained through the generosity of volunteers, family contributions, and community support. A reflection of the island’s deep capacity for compassion.
Come say hi, have a treat, and connect. Whether you’re curious, grieving, or simply interested in learning more, all are welcome to join the conversation.
