Want to celebrate Day of the Dead? Make a Magic Pocket Shrine!
What is a pocket shrine?
Originating in Mexico, the pocket shrine is both a creative art form and a symbolic act used to enhance a part of your life. Together, we will take time to reflect on which part you would like to bring new life to. We will each assemble a small shrine using materials provided and anything you have collected to imbue yours with a specific intention.
Join Jane Newman as she guides you through the magic-making.
When? Sunday, November 2, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Day of the Dead
Where? Museum Main Gallery
Possible topics for your pocket shrine: creativity, prosperity, dreams, healing, courage, peace, strength…
Before the workshop, collect:
• small bits of imagery specific to your intentions
• words, quotes, poems, icons, buttons, sequins, beads, feathers, fabric, seeds, tiny candles, toys… anything really, but small, as these are pocket shrines
Workshop requires registration, $25 per person. Registration is necessary** because of limited group size – only 10 people.
Email cimascortesmuseum.com or call 250-935-6340 to register. Payment is accepted at the workshop.
