We’re almost there. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we’ve nearly reached our goal to install Cortes Island’s first early wildfire detection system. Just a final stretch of funding stands between us and having this life-saving technology in place before the peak of wildfire season.
Wildfires are no longer a distant threat. Right now, fires on Vancouver Island are sending smoke across our region — affecting our air quality, our health, and the health of our forests and wildlife. On Cortes, our dense forest, dry conditions, and limited emergency access mean that a small spark can escalate quickly, threatening homes, habitat, and the way of life we treasure.
This is why we’re installing the SenseNet wildfire detection system — proven technology that can spot fires within minutes, often while they’re still smoldering, and alert our fire department immediately. Every hour gained can make the difference between a close call and a disaster.
We are so close to making this happen — but we need your help to close the gap. Every dollar counts, and every contribution is tax-deductible.

Let’s take this final step together and make sure Cortes is protected this summer — and for years to come.
