As wildfires continue to burn across BC — including just across the water on Vancouver Island, where a state of local emergency and evacuation order are now in effect — the reality is clear: our island is not immune. With dry conditions, dense forest, and limited emergency access, a wildfire on Cortes could escalate quickly and be devastating.
That’s why we’re working to install an early wildfire detection system — the same advanced SenseNet technology already protecting other BC communities. This network of smart sensors and cameras can detect fires within minutes, often during the smoldering phase before visible flames appear. Early alerts mean faster response, less damage, and reduced risk to people and property.
✅ The system has been approved by the Cortes Island Fire Department and CIFFA
✅ All donations are tax-deductible
✅ Property owners can also sponsor additional coverage for their land
We’re getting closer to our goal — but we still need your help.
If every Cortes resident contributes something — big or small — we’ll get there together.

Let’s take this proactive step to protect the island we all love.
