The Cortes Museum and Archive Society invites you to "Finding Home: The Cortes Island Experience," a community speaker series celebrating the unique journeys that bring people to Cortes Island. The series is hosted by Brian Scott.

On Sunday, June 8, meet Norm Gibbons
2 to 3:30 p.m.

Norm Gibbons first fell in love with Desolation Sound as a young teenager when he and his mother visited Refuge Cove from Vancouver in the early '50s. Years later, he returned with his wife and family, and serendipitously became instrumental in the creation of the Refuge Cove housing cooperative, the oldest housing cooperative in British Columbia. A world traveller, entrepreneur, artist, and now a long-time resident of Cortes, Norm has many interesting and unique stories to share. As he puts it, “insert quote.”

Each month, a local resident will share their personal story – how they discovered Cortes Island, what drew them to make it their home, and what continues to inspire them to stay.

This one-and-a-half-hour event features an informal talk followed by an open Q&A, creating space for connection and conversation. Afterward, stick around for a casual social gathering to meet neighbours, share experiences, and strengthen the bonds that make Cortes Island a special place to live.

Whether you’re new to the island or a longtime resident, the Finding Home speaker series offers a chance to deepen your understanding of the community and the stories that shape it. We look forward to seeing you there!

Refreshments will be provided. Registrations are not required. Donations are greatly appreciated. For more information, please contact Cortes Island Museum at 250-935-6340 or email cimascortesmuseum.com.
