GinaT Seafest
The Cortes Island Seafood Association would like to thank the many volunteers who helped make Seafest 2025 a success.

The original plan was to have a sunny Seafest at Smelt Bay Park, however as the rain continued to fall, the venue was changed to Manson’s Hall. All the volunteers (54) turned up to help in spite of the soggy start to the day.

A big thank you to Mike Moore, Lorne Jacobson, Laurie Rogers, Kate Maddigan, Claude Rossman and Ann Dewar who turned up early Saturday morning to put up the tents.

The fantastic volunteer cooks were Gabriel Dinim, Brian Cant, Lavinia Rendall, Alice Setter Gosse, Edward, Leanne and Melissa Campbell, Nancy and Peter Mutrie, Penny and Claude Rossman, Ayami Stryck, Ann Dewar, Candice, Steve and Linda Pocock, and Meghan and Karina. Janet Forsyth, Julia Rendall, Kate and Sandy were on the BBQs.

The oyster shuckers relentlessly shucked oysters for hours. Sonja Friesen, Phil Allen, Germaine, Ian Winter, Savanna Young, Jeff, Dave Nikleva. Peter Mutrie provided quality control.

Tickets were sold by Mags Foster and Diane. Deb Cawston handed out plates and Phil Foster served food for those who needed assistance; thank you to all.

A big thank you to Ed Safarik and Ian Winter for their help in transporting equipment to and from the site.

Eli and Alex from the Fire Department were a great help dismantling the tents at the end of the day.

Music was provided by Larry Hanson, Shane Hedefine, Duane Hanson and Will Rendall.

A big thanks to Klahoose who made their bus available, thanks to Don who picked up people at Whaletown and drove them to the hall.

Thank you to Cora and Jenn for their constant support in making sure this event happened.

A huge thank you to Gina and Susanna for helping with publicity.

Not to forget, everyone who put away tables and washed lots of dishes!

As you can see, it requires a lot of community input to put on an event such as this. We hope we haven’t forgotten anyone! Thank you to all.

The event was coordinated by Julia Rendall and Dave Nikleva.
