Don’t miss the next session of Finding Home! Join Artist Brigid Weiler as she shares stories about growing up in Whaletown and her life on Cortes. Sunday May 11, 2-3:30 pm at the Cortes Island Museum. Free event, donations appreciated.

“Mary and Ottie Weiler moved to Whaletown in April, 1947. Both urban British Columbians, they met and married while serving in the Second World War, and upon their return, having lost everything during the Depression and the war, but supported by hopes and dreams, they cast about for a new life. Chartering a boat, they came up the coast seeking a place where they could live, in their own words, a "happy, romantic, Bohemian life". They sailed into Whaletown Bay and saw their future in a half-built house on the beach, and the rest, as they say, is history. “
