The SRD is now accepting applications from homeowners for the FireSmart Crew Member service until May 9th.
The FireSmart Crew Member is available to provide assistance to Cortes Island homeowners to help them take proactive steps towards wildfire risk reduction. This position is fully funded by the SRD’s 2025-2026 FireSmart Community and Funding Supports grant. The FireSmart Crew Member can work on a variety of low-risk tasks around your home and property such as:
•Clearing Debris: Using hand tools to remove dry leaves, branches, and other flammable materials from your property.
•Moving Firewood Piles: Relocating firewood, ensuring it's stored at a proper distance from your home.
•Cleaning Gutters: Cleaning gutters (limited to 10 feet high) to prevent the buildup of combustible materials.
