TUESDAY, APRIL 22: Earth Day Film Screening: ECO WARRIORS

Come celebrate Earth Day with the screening of the documentary film, "ECO WARRIORS" (2012, 53 minutes).

The presentation will take place at Mansons Hall, Cortes Island, on Tuesday, April 22 (Earth Day 2025), doors at 7, screening at 7:30. Admission is by donation (suggested $10).

The film tells the story of several environmental activists (including Cortes Island's very own Tzeporah Berman), who have faced imprisonment for their actions, as well as the threat of being labeled terrorists for protecting the land and forests they love.

ECO WARRIORS was directed and produced by local filmmaker Jennifer Isme Pickford, who will present the film, and invites all to stay for a Q&A following the screening.

The film has been screened throughout the BC and Northern Washington State, and officially selected to screen at the Thunder Bay Environmental Film Festival and the Tofino International Film Festival. This is the first time the film has been screened on Cortes Island.

Due to mature subject matter and some coarse language, this film has been rated PG-13.

Storyline:
Coined by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, the term "eco-terrorism" often faces accusations that it only serves to criminalize or demonize environmentally motivated protest actions. Today, a protester who was once labeled an eco-activist can be rebranded as an "eco-terrorist," and environmentalism is often branded as "eco-terrorism." The ECO WARRIORS documentary features individuals who have been active in environmental fields for most of their lives, with some even willing to risk imprisonment to protect planet Earth. The impact of the term "ecoterrorism" can be seen in the lives of activists such as Tre Arrow, Ruth Masters, Tzeporah Berman (Friends of Clayoquot Sound, Forest Ethics), Alexandra Morton, Derrick Jensen (Deep Green Resistance), Zoe Blunt (Eco Warriors Legal Trust), and Ingmar Lee. Despite adversity, many activists continue their efforts and even educate others about resilience and activism.—Hayduke, IMDB
