Hi Everyone,

Thank you to the 415 people who responded to the maximum house size survey last month! The question received a lot of interest and I’m grateful to everyone who took the time to share their thoughts.

For people that live full time on Cortes, there was only a one vote difference between the yes and no side, and when combining part time residents, the majority of respondents did not support a maximum house size regulation.

The results show we are clearly divided on the issue and I will be recommending that we do not include a maximum house size in our zoning bylaw update. Read the full SRD staff report on the survey results here:

It’s important that we are able to have conversations about issues, especially when we disagree with our neighbours. Civil discussion allows more people to be part of the conversation and ultimately helps us make better decisions.

Regardless of what side of the issue you were on for this, I hope we can all commit to maintaining constructive and kind conversations about the future of Cortes.
