Spring is rising under the swaying cedar boughs of the Children’s Forest. Songbirds have begun to sing, and frogs are calling. Soon salmon fry, placed in redds built by human hands this winter, will begin to hatch. My deep hope is that this may all continue. I find it easy to be swept away in the terror, ignorance and unbalance of our times, but it is peaceful in these woods. Spring reminds me that so much is still alive. So much is worth appreciating and fighting for.

Throughout the winter there have been educational excursions for youth into the Children’s Forest, as well as salmon habitat restoration, board strategy meetings, and negotiations with Mosaic. While spring stirs the forest, our own Sapien community is emerging from winter into our town centres as well, blinking in the light. It seems like a good time to gather, and so the directors of the Forest Trust for the Children of Cortes Island Society (FTCCIS) invite you to our AGM.

You are encouraged to bust out your leaves and ferns and come dressed in forest finery.

It's been over 15 years since the founding of the Forest Trust for the Children of Cortes Island Society. Some might call that a long time, but it isn’t so long for a tree and even less for a forest. As we plan and prepare for this next critical chapter, all allies of the children’s forest are welcome and needed.
