Public Notice from the Cortes Island Fire Department: Live Structure Fire Training on Sunday, March 30th at 700 Whaletown Rd.

The Cortes Island Fire Department is working with trainers from the Oyster River Fire Department and Regional Deputy Fire Chief of Training and Safety John Baker from the Campbell River Fire Department to conduct a Live Structure Fire burn of a donated structure as part of ongoing training and certification for our firefighters. This training will help enhance their skills in fire suppression, rescue operations, and emergency response. The training will be conducted over two days, with the Live Structure Fire portion on Sunday, March 30th. Residents of Cortes and Quadra Island can expect to see a significant smoke plume in the Gorge Harbour area at times.

Time: 10:00 AM to PM 7:00 PM
Location: 700 Whaletown Rd.

We want to assure the public that all necessary safety measures will be in place during the burn, the national standard for live fire training (NFPA 1403), will be adhered to, and the burn site will be carefully monitored by experienced personnel.

What to Expect
*There will be visible smoke and flames from the burn site during training hours.
*Firefighting crews will be actively engaged in controlled operations on-site.
*Please avoid the immediate vicinity of the burn area for your safety.
*Do not call 911 to report this fire.
