Mia Gregg, Director, Forest Trust for the Children of Cortes Island Society
The Forest Trust for the Children of Cortes Island Society FTCCIS) is nearing a significant milestone. The concept of the Children’s Forest was born in 2010, and over the past 15 years, the Cortes community has supported us in a myriad of ways – educational & leadership programmes for youth & families, scientific research, BYOblitzes & MYCOoblitzes, youth theatre & arts, and in promoting the relationship between nature and community.
Through formal protocols, our Society has been in discussions with Mosaic Logging Management to achieve a negotiated price. Over the past two years, we have engaged professionals to establish values on land and timber. More work is required, but our Society feels we may be nearing a point where we will be submitting a formal offer to Mosaic. This will be a significant step, but not without challenges.
With the final price still to be determined, we cannot share any details yet. However, it is sufficed to say this amount will be significant. We will need all of you, near and far, to help complete this dream. In the near future, we will provide updates as we continue to move towards our goal of preserving the Children’s Forest in perpetuity.
