Iris Steigemann.
Beyond the Arctic Circle Trail: Hiking and Travels in West GreenlandIris Steigemann, an artist and photographer, has journeyed to Greenland for over a decade, hiking the Arctic Circle Trail (ACT) across the beautiful uninhabited tundra of West Greenland, a wild and stunning landscape that traces the edge of the icecap and crosses the World Heritage Site Aasivissuit – Nipisat: Inuit Hunting Ground between Ice and Sea. This 165 km trek begins at the small town of Kangerlussuaq (pop. 500) at the end of Søndre Strømfjord to the coastal community of Sisimiut, the second largest city of Greenland (pop. 5500).
Iris will share photos and stories from her most recent hike on the ACT and her ferry travels along the west coast of Greenland. She will share her observations of how climate change has affected Point 660 and Russell Glacier, two of the few places one can closely observe Greenland’s ice cap by foot.
Please join us for this special visual presentation.
Refreshments will be available. Everyone welcome!
