If you are travelling through Quadra on Sunday, March 2nd, drop in at the Quadra Community Centre to peruse their Death Education Fair anytime between 1:00 - 4:00 pm.

This one-of-a-kind community event offers a welcoming space to explore topics of aging, death, dying, and grief with openness and curiosity. Their goal is to expand awareness, foster comfort with these important conversations, and highlight local, natural, and community-centered approaches to end-of-life care.

In the Main Hall, the Fair will feature informational tables covering topics such as estate and personal planning, community-led death care, natural burial, caskets and shrouds, Threshold Choir, hospice, grief and loss, MAiD, and more. Attendees are encouraged to browse at their own pace, ask questions, and engage with knowledgeable locals who can offer guidance and insight.

In the Green Room, relax in the Death Cafe and engage in guided conversation while enjoying tea and cookies.

In the Yoga Room, there are four scheduled 20-minute presentations: 1:20 pm Compassionate Communities, 2:00 pm Estate and Personal Planning, 2:45 pm Community-Led Death Care, and 3:30 pm Quadra Island Cemetery.

The result of living in a society that is shy to talk about death is that our knowledge about what is possible is often narrow and limited. While we still have the capacity to explore and the time to ponder, let us acknowledge our mortality and empower ourselves with knowledge.
