About Us
Now entering our fourth year, Cortes Island Academy has welcomed students from across British Columbia, Alberta, and even as far as Germany and Indonesia. Our place-based high school program offers students the chance to earn credits while learning from scientists, local knowledge holders, and thought leaders.

Each semester is designed around a central theme, and for Fall 2025/2026, we’re diving into Marine Ecology. Through art, science, and experiential education, students will explore ocean ecosystems, deep ecology, and citizen science, while working on real-world projects that make an impact.

Why CIA?
Traditional education doesn’t work for everyone—CIA offers something different. We provide an immersive, hands-on learning experience, where students engage in marine research, outdoor adventure, podcasting, and community-driven projects.
